2012 Event Marks 5th Annual Running of the A Cool 5 Race Weekend – June 8th & 9th 2012
Beech Mountain, NC - Beech Mountain Parks & Recreation Department has announced the fifth Annual A Cool 5 Race Weekend benefit event, and is even more pleased to announce the new official name of the 2012 event which will now be the Antler Realty A Cool 5 Race Weekend as Antler Realty of Banner Elk has just signed on to be the title sponsor for the 2012 A Cool 5 Race to take place on Beech Mountain next June. “The staff at Antler Realty is so excited to have our name on this home town sports event.” Owner, Julia Heinlein says she has lived on Beech Mountain for 4 years. “I have never experienced a stronger feeling of such a close knit community than with this town. Being at an elevation of 5506’, Beech Mountain attracts a lot of highly athletic people who excel at skiing, hiking, biking and especially at running,” said Heinlein. “I can see how athletes are drawn to this area because of the natural beauty and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and this event has proven itself as a must do for the past four years. I have found Running is great therapy for the soul and we are so blessed to host this event in the most Scenic mountain resort area in the Eastern United States.
The A Cool 5 Race Weekend is a compilation of events, birthed in June of 2008, held in Beech Mountain, NC annually. The Race Weekend includes pre-race festivities on Friday, June 8th, 2012, with a pasta dinner, guest motivational speaker, music, and plenty of games and activities for the entire family. Saturday, June 9th, 2012, is race day. The festivities begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the 5 mile race, featuring cutting edge Jaguar race timing technology, the pet friendly 1.5 mile fun run/walk, and post-race awards party.
The A Cool 5 Race weekend not only capitalizes on the beauty and splendor of Beech Mountain, but unites outdoor enthusiasts for a great cause. In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 the A Cool 5 successfully raised over $85,000 via valuable sponsors, event participation, and in kind donations, resulting in the construction of a new community playground, falls trail hiking loop at Buckeye Lake Recreation Area, and will soon help to complete and ADA accessible community fishing docks program with the construction of a new dock at Lake Coffey. “Through the A Cool 5, Beech Mountain Parks & Recreation hopes to continue our progress of providing safe and enjoyable recreation outlets for our residents and guests while enhancing Beech Mountain’s status as an outdoor recreation Mecca of the southeast for all to enjoy,” said Scagnelli.
Information regarding the race and subsequent weekend events can be found at www.acool5.com. A new website will be launched by November 2011, says Race Director, Daniel Scagnelli. The race committee also plans to begin offering registration incentives for the 2012 event to past participants in mid-November and will then open early registration incentives to the general public just before the holiday season begins at the end of November.
Race participants and their families are encouraged to take advantage of special dining, lodging, and retail incentives that will be available throughout the weekend of the race. Again, registration for the event is expected to open in November of this year, with special priority going to past year’s participants, especially those that will join the 25 mile club by participating five years in a row. Stay tuned to the event website for specials, promotions, and details regarding the race. This benchmark year is sure to raise the bar yet again and will provide more fun and excitement than ever.
