Course Maps 2014
5 Mile and 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk Race Course Description
These activities are set above 5,000 ft. in elevation in the beautiful Town of Beech Mountain. Both distances start out with a gentle climb through the Woodland Meadows section of Beech Mountain and then loop back around past our Bark Park and special event fields. The course starts out with a gradual climb before finding a mile of nice rolling pavement.
Our Fun/Run Walkers then head back to Town Hall and the finish line while our 5 Milers head up to the Land of Oz with 360 degree views of the majestic mountains such as Grandfather, Mount Mitchell, and Snake Mountain.
On the way to Oz, runners will cross the ski slopes and will be treated to breath-taking views of the Town of Beech Mountain. At the very top of Beech, runners always enjoy the cool mountain breeze as they start the long descent down towards the finish line at Town Hall. There are plenty of places along the course for spectators to watch and cheer on the athletes.
The view during the race is one of the many reasons our participants keep coming back year after year. Note: Running Strollers are allowed on the entire race course.
1.5 Mile Walk & Wag Course Description
We are pleased to offer a new addition to our Cool 5 Race Weekend this year...the Walk & Wag. While participants in the past have brought their furry friends along on the 1.5 Fun Run/Walk, we wanted to make it official this year. Beech Mountain is a pet-friendly town and has a Bark Park with one of the best views on the mountain right in the center of town. Dogs on a leash are welcome to join the fun and there will be special water/treat stations along the course and a Cool Canine Roundup at the Bark Park after the walk. “Doggy bags" will be made available on the course as well!
The Walk & Wag participants will line up directly behind the 1.5 Mile Fun Run racers and will follow the same course.
The Buck-A-Thon will be held Friday, June 20th from 2 – 7 pm at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Participants can download the “Buck-A-Thon” Pledge Form (available soon) and invite family and friends to pledge a “buck” a lap around Buckeye Recreation Center. Participants have a five hour window to either lap around Buckeye or take advantage of the indoor walking track to earn their pledge amounts. Pledges will be used to help enhance the park and recreation activities at Buckeye. Participating in the Buck-A-Thon is free; however, please register so that we can make sure that we have enough goody bags for all walkers.
Our newest race, the Popsicle Relay, is designed for kids 12 and under. This family friendly event will take place on Friday, June 21st from 4 – 5 pm at the Buckeye Recreation Center. This relay is free; however please register so that we may place the children in age appropriate categories and make sure we have enough popsicles!
